Common questions

How do I take card payments in person with my online store?

You connect a payment processor like Stripe, then link a card reader or a phone to your point of sale so the sale amount goes straight to the device. In Pludor POS, connect Stripe in Settings, choose Card Reader > Add Reader and enter the reader's registration code, or pair a spare phone with the Smart Terminal app. Then ring up the sale, pick the reader and press Charge.

Can I use my phone as a card reader instead of buying a terminal?

Yes, if it's an Android phone with NFC. Install the Pludor Smart Terminal app on the spare phone, sign in and pair it with your store's POS by scanning a QR code. The customer then taps their card on the phone or scans a QR code to pay, and the payment shows up in Finance and the end-of-day report.

How much does it cost to use card readers with Pludor POS?

Card Readers and Tap to Pay are on for every store, including the Free plan - you get a free amount each month and then pay only for what you use (1 credit = 1 cent). Stripe's card processing fees apply separately, and any hardware is a one-time purchase not included in your plan. Cash sales recorded in POS carry no platform fee.

What do I need to set up before I can accept tap-to-pay?

You need a Pludor store (free to create) and a connected Stripe account - card payments run through Stripe. Then either add a Stripe card reader by registration code or pair a phone as a Smart Terminal. You can buy readers directly from the POS hardware section of your dashboard if you don't have one.

What happens if a card payment fails at the counter?

Retry the charge first - often a tap just didn't register. If it still fails, Pludor POS lets you switch the sale to a QR code payment or cash on the spot, so the customer isn't stuck. The sale stays in your order list either way.

How is this different from Square or Clover POS?

Traditional POS systems typically lock you into vendor-specific readers and need a separate kiosk product or sync app to match in-person and online sales. Pludor runs counter, kiosk, kitchen, tables and online orders on one catalog and one order list, uses standard Stripe readers or a spare phone as a terminal, and includes kiosk mode inside the POS. Staff clock-in and tips are included with the Scale plan.

How do I add a Stripe card reader to my POS?

Open Point of Sale in the Core Commerce menu, choose Card Reader > Add Reader, and enter the reader's registration code plus a label so you can tell readers apart. Once added, you select that reader when charging a sale. Run a small test charge to confirm it works before taking real customers.

Is it safe to connect Stripe to my POS?

Yes - Stripe handles the card processing, so card details go through Stripe's system rather than being stored by the POS. In Pludor you connect your own Stripe account in Settings, and payments, fees and payouts are visible in the Finance section. Take a test order first to see the full checkout flow before going live.

Can I accept card payments at a market stall without wifi or a terminal contract?

Yes - a spare Android phone with NFC becomes your terminal, so you don't need a separate reader or contract. Pair it as a Pludor Smart Terminal and customers tap their card or scan a QR code to pay. If the card tap fails, you can fall back to a QR payment or record cash.

How do I keep track of cash and card sales at the end of the day?

Run the end-of-day report in POS to reconcile your cash and card totals against what's in the drawer. In Pludor, card payments also appear in Finance with the fee deducted and your payouts, and staff PINs mean every sale is attributed to whoever rang it up. That makes closing out the day a two-minute check instead of a hunt.
