A physical card-payment terminal costs money and is one more piece of hardware to manage, when most sellers already carry a smartphone.

What you need

How to do it

How do I use Smart Terminal, step by step?

Turn a spare phone into a Tap-to-Pay / QR point-of-sale terminal. You need a Pludor store - free to create.

  1. Connect Stripe: In Settings, connect your Stripe account so card payments can be accepted.
  2. Install Smart Terminal: Install the Pludor Smart Terminal app on a spare Android phone with NFC.
  3. Pair with your store: Sign in and pair the terminal with your store's POS.
  4. Take a payment: Ring up the sale in Point of Sale (POS); the customer taps their card on the phone or scans the QR code.
  5. Reconcile: Payments appear in Finance and in the POS end-of-day report.

Common questions

Can I turn my old Android phone into a card payment terminal?

Yes - if the phone has NFC, it can accept contactless card payments using Tap-to-Pay technology. Pludor Smart Terminal is a dedicated Android app that does exactly this: install it on the spare phone, pair it with your Pludor store, and customers can tap their card on the phone or scan a QR code to pay.

How do I accept card payments in person without buying a card reader?

Use Tap-to-Pay on an NFC-capable Android phone instead of separate hardware. With Pludor Smart Terminal, you connect a Stripe account in Settings, install the app on the phone, pair it with your store's POS, and take payments by card tap or QR code. No card-reader purchase is needed.

How do I set up Pludor Smart Terminal step by step?

First connect your Stripe account in your store's Settings so card payments can be accepted. Then install the Pludor Smart Terminal app on a spare NFC-capable Android phone, sign in, and pair it with your store's POS. Ring up sales in POS, have the customer tap their card or scan the QR code, and check payments in Finance or the POS end-of-day report.

Do I need a special card reader or hardware for Tap-to-Pay?

No separate card reader is required - Tap-to-Pay uses the NFC chip built into the Android phone itself. The only requirements are an NFC-capable Android phone and a connected Stripe account. Stripe's card processing fees apply per payment.

How much does it cost to use a phone as a payment terminal?

Pludor Smart Terminal is available on every store, including the Free plan, which includes a free amount of usage each month. Past the free amount, you pay only for what you use, at 1 credit = 1 cent. Stripe's card processing fees also apply per payment, since cards are processed through Stripe.

What do I need before I can start taking card payments at a market stall?

You need three things: a Pludor store (free to create), a Stripe account connected in Settings, and an NFC-capable Android phone with the Smart Terminal app installed. Once the terminal is paired with your store's POS, you can take tap and QR payments on the spot. Market vendors and pop-up shops are exactly who this is built for.

Does Tap-to-Pay work on iPhone as well as Android?

Pludor Smart Terminal runs as a dedicated Android app, so it requires an NFC-capable Android phone. If you only have an iPhone, you can still take in-person payments via QR-code pay links - download your product or store QR codes from the dashboard and have customers scan to pay. The tap-on-phone option itself needs the Android app.

How do I keep track of cash and card sales at the end of the day?

Run the end-of-day report in your POS to reconcile cash and card totals. Card payments taken through Smart Terminal appear in Finance and in the POS end-of-day report, showing each payment and the fee deducted. You can also set staff PINs in POS so every sale is attributed to who rang it up.

Can customers pay by scanning a QR code instead of tapping?

Yes - Smart Terminal includes a QR-code payment option alongside Stripe Tap-to-Pay. The customer scans the QR code on the phone to pay, which is useful if their card or phone doesn't support contactless. You can also download product or store QR codes from your dashboard to accept payment in person.

Is it safe to take card payments on my own phone?

Payments are processed by Stripe, a established card processor, rather than stored by the phone itself - the phone just acts as the contactless terminal. Pludor shows each payment, the fee deducted, and your payouts in Finance so you can verify everything. Tap-to-Pay requires an NFC-capable Android phone and a connected Stripe account.

Do I need to buy a card reader to use Smart Terminal?

No - it uses Tap-to-Pay technology built into the Android phone itself, so no separate card-reader hardware is required.
